Big Man, Little Drawings
As a male born in a traditional Punjabi family, I grew up being terrified of extreme masculine behavior. My early reaction to the energy and the dynamics of exaggerated male behavior has shaped my identity and my particular relationship with the notion of gender.
Big Man, Little Drawings is a series of short solos based around the idea of masculinity and the physicality that resides within its wide spectrum ranging from hyper-masculinity to effeminacy. Drawing on popular culture, pornography, comic strips and personal experience, this work is a way for the choreographer to revisit and re-define his relationship with his own body as well as the notions of masculinity and sexuality.
